Melissa's Design Notes: Spring 2024
Behind The Seams

"The ultimate in form and function, I’ve always taken huge inspiration from the design of chairs. I was obsessed with making them when I studied sculpture at university and regularly studied the work of Charlotte Perriand and her contemporaries. And as we launch this latest collection, I look at it - and all our collections, really - and trace the thread of influence from chair design to the way I’ve gone about designing our bags."
"Things like applying the same philosophy that Perriand did; not thinking about the object itself, but rather, the people using that object and the experience they’re going to have with it. Designing for purpose, and for making people’s lives better rather than simply for aesthetics."
"Done well, this approach yielded chairs that allowed you to work in the best way, to converse in the best way, to relax in the best way. And that’s what we’re trying to accomplish with every Métier piece; to purpose thoughtful design so you can travel in the best way, go about your day in the best way, perform your métier in the best way."
"In other words, at the heart of this collection and all of our designs aren’t just the bags, but the idea of the person carrying it."
