Tell us about Le Sirenuse.
Le Sirenuse is a wonderful place from which to enjoy the simple pleasures of Positano and the spectacular Amalfi Coast.John Steinbeck, who visited in 1953, wrote 'Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn't quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.'
The hotel is located at the center of the village of Positano, on the Amalfi Drive, 50 km from Naples. Perched on the cliffs of Positano, 70 mt above the sea, the hotel is an unbeatable oasis of peace and silence, with a breathtaking view.
What is your favorite part of high season? Any special moments that you look forward to each year?
June is the start of summer and there is an unbeatable feeling of joy in the air.
I look forward to the unveiling of our new art installation (we acquire a site-specific piece of art every year, slowly building a beautiful art collection curated by Silka Rittson-Thomas), a double painting by Rita Ackermann on September 18th. Other works include a neon by Martin Creed, a mural by Alex Israel, a double installation by Matt Connors, a yellow ceramic fountain by Giuseppe Ducrot, paintings by Stanley Whitney and graffiti by Karl Holmqvist.
What are some of your favorite memories from seasons past? Any behind-the-scenes stories to share?
Wonderful memories are always linked to special people we meet. And we meet many people in our hotel life. Some of them become friends for life. We are very lucky.
What should be on everyone’s bucket list when they come to Positano.
Da Adolfo a Laurito is a wonderful restaurant with the most delicious fish and pasta cuisine. On a beach some 2 km East of Positano, it operates a shuttle boat with a red fish on the mast from the main docks. This is a must. As well as Lo Scoglio a Nerano, on the coast towards Capri, famous for its pasta and zucchini, a legendary dish.
What does luxury mean to you?
Luxury is all about delivering a unique experience, with extreme care and love. And it needs to be delivered with grace and tact. It is about offering a spiritual emotion to sophisticated people who know everything and have seen it all. It’s all about surprising them with the best service or the most well-made, elegant, understated piece of garment or – in the case of Métier London – an unbelievable leather bag, because they have never yet seen anything the same before.
When you travel, where do you like to go? Any favorite places or hotels you love to visit when its your turn to escape?
I love New York and, since we opened our new restaurant, Le Sirenuse Miami at The Surf Club, Miami as well. In NYC I enjoy everything the city can offer, the best restaurants, the theatres, friends and my children, who live there. In Miami, the best surprise is the climate, because it is a permanent summer. But it is also beautiful beyond any measure. All the water ways and the beach are there for you to regenerate.
What can we always find in your bag?
I love large bags. I carry so many things with me and love to have space for them. I always have a pen and a little booklet to take notes. I often have my kindle. And an iPhone charger, and some toiletries. My passport never leaves my bag either, as I travel so much. All these items, plus, sunglasses, wallets etc. need a lot of space….
Do you have any packing tricks or travelling tips?
My only tip, that I learned from my very meticulous husband, is to immediately unpack once you arrive in your hotel room. Even if you stay one night only. It will give you a sense of order and peace of mind and you will feel arrived.

Tell us about your collaboration with Métier
I met Melissa Morris last year in London, through my dear friend Silka Rittson-Thomas, our art curator and source of many inspirations. We immediately felt we shared the same sense of understated elegance, which is the essence of Le Sirenuse. We decided to make a collaboration and design a common logo which was inspired by our hotel carton’s name tags. We chose colours together and made a small collection of bags that speak about us. The results were stunning: a beautiful weekend bag, made in military green canvas and cream leather straps, matching two toiletries bags in canvas and a beautiful clutch in cream leather that has a special place inside the weekend bag. Amazing. Available only at Emporio Sirenuse, in Positano or at the Métier London flagship store, or online, at EmporioSirenuse.com or metierlondon.com.
